Around-the-World 24 Feb- 4 Mar 2010

Riverside, CA (near March AFB)

England

The pub outside Mildenhall where we ate a couple of times

English homes

The top sign says "elderly people" and the figures are two elderly people walking with canes

London!

Tower in London

Big Ben

Parliament

Statue of Oliver Cromwell

Cathedral across from Parliament

The London Eye ferris wheel

A guy playing bagpipes on the bridge

Me in a phonebooth

The palace

Well, there weren't any guards, but we just took some pictures without them

Mountains at the western edge of Afghanistan (tiny compared to what comes later)

More mountains

Eastern Afghanistan had the most incredible mountains I've ever seen... they were 10,000 ft + and stretched to the horizon on all sides

Bagram AB, Afghanistan sits in a bowl of mountains... it's the little smudge in the middle of that valley

Bagram was surrounded by these little villages of small houses and small rock walls

A huge mountain lake

On the horizon and slightly left of center is mountain K2 (2nd tallest in the world)

Manas AB, Kyrgyzstan (it's really cold, rainy/snowy, and the old Soviet part is extremely run-down)

Sunset leaving Manas

Sunrise at Diego Garcia (a British-owned island in the middle of the Indian Ocean)

Sign at Diego... pretty much as far from anywhere as possible

Back of the sign

Fringes of Tokyo... the city and the cities around it are just massive

Mt Fuji on the way into Yokota AB, Japan
